Blastro launched into
the Internet entertainment universe in January 2000, with a
payload of programming targeted for a new generation of viewers
- Internet users between the ages of 14-24. The advertising
and entertainment industries have labeled this demographic as
"Generation-Y" - known for their large disposable
income, elusive brand loyalty and ever-shortening attention
spans. Blastro prefers to call this group the "on-demand"
generation. They are an audience that has grown up with video
games, sample based music, and the Internet. This gives them
a completely different relationship with the medium of television,
and streaming media in particular.

Suckarepellent.com came
into existence in spring of 2001. From a political point of
view it was an uneasy moment in time--the early days of the
Bush administration. Europe was eerily lit with huge pyres built
from the carcasses of hoof and mouth infected livestock. And
in Taliban controlled Afghanistan, there were massive exploding
Buddhas. Harbingers, perhaps, of chaos to come. Simultaneously,
on the SR homefront, vantage point Austin, TX, (ATX) (and more
recently, NYC), a burgeoning underground hip hop scene also
seemed set to explode. As the music industry reeled under a
technological revolution, SR watched local artists come into
their own with tight self-produced releases, and a steady stream
of independent national talent flowed through town. The combination
of these energies inspired Suckarepellent. It's an important
time for the independent voice. From the beginning SR strived
to provide political analysis that went deeper than propaganda,
mixed with features on innovative underground music acts, and
independent fashion designers.

My Floetry section is dedicated
to Spoken word artists who rock my world and possibly yours too.
Nuff Respect to the the musical group "Floetry" . Their
ubran - nu classic soul styles reminds me of Jill Scott, Lauryn
Hill, and the entire dirty back pack crew. |
